citizens live in Commonwealth countries, with over 60 per cent aged 29 or under.
Just 15%
of the world’s CO2 emissions are generated by the 56 Commonwealth countries.

square kilometres of forest land is covered by Commonwealth countries.

of the world’s coral reefs are in the Commonwealth.

The annual UN Climate Change Conference is the primary global forum for achieving multilateral climate action, while also providing a platform for the larger international community, including civil society, academic and the private sector to contribute to global discussions on climate change.

Headed by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, the Commonwealth Secretariat delegation participated at strategic and technical levels at COP27, with the aim of:

  • advocating the interests of Commonwealth member countries, particularly small and other vulnerable states
  • establishing and strengthening partnerships and networks
  • mobilising resources
  • exchanging knowledge and best practices around climate action, including lessons learned from flagship programmes such as the:
Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub (CCFAH)
Commonwealth Living Lands Charter 
Commonwealth Blue Charter
Commonwealth Sustainable Energy Transition Agenda (CSET)
Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda for Trade and Investment (CCA)
