The Commonwealth’s push for greater inclusion was showcased during this staging of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa. Samoa's Prime Minister, the Hon Fiamē Naomi Mata'afa, said that CHOGM Samoa 2024’s outcomes should foster resilient societies which would “empower individuals for a peaceful and productive life”. 

The World Cancer Congress has concluded in Geneva, Switzerland, with a robust set of recommendations which, if implemented, could contribute to eliminating cervical cancer, which claims nearly 10 million lives annually around the world.

Children aged from four to 14 have made history by becoming the youngest ever official delegates to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024 concluded today in Apia, Samoa, where leaders gathered under the theme “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth.”

Today at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa, leaders announced the selection of the Honourable Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, currently Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ghana, as the incoming Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. 

The Samoan way of life was gloriously on display as the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) welcomed leaders from the 56 member countries in Apia today. The powerful voices and rhythmic dancing of performers thrilled the audience, showcasing the rich culture of Samoa.

Your Majesties, Your Highness, the Head of State of Samoa, Prime Minister of Samoa, Excellencies, Secretary-General, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen.

I am very pleased to join you for the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. To the Government and people of Samoa, our host, I thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality.

Your Grace, Your Majesties, Your Excellencies, Honorable Ministers, partners, colleagues, friends, fellow citizens of our beloved Commonwealth.

As the torch passes from the land of a thousand hills and the tender and, I must say, loving care of our outgoing Chair-in-Office, President Paul Kagame, to the guardianship of the Big Blue Pacific, I want to take this opportunity to thank him, on behalf of our whole family, for his skillful stewardship and the generosity of his government and the people of Rwanda.

The people of Samoa have been eagerly awaiting your arrival, the Leaders and delegates of CHOGM 2024.

Commonwealth youth leaders, representing the 1.5 billion young people that live in Commonwealth countries, met with heads of government at a high-level Intergenerational Dialogue Breakfast Meeting in Samoa.

As one of the signature events ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the 2024 Commonwealth Climate Breakfast this year focused on building consensus for climate finance targets in the run-up to COP 29. The packed room was addressed by the Prime Ministers from Tonga and Tuvalu; the Vice-President of the Maldives; Minister for Fisheries and Forests in the Government of Fiji, and the Secretary for Foreign Affairs from Mauritius.

The Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting on Small States (CMMSS) convened today in Apia, Samoa, at a critical juncture as the country this week becomes the first Pacific Small Island Developing State (SIDS) to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This ministerial meeting highlights the urgent need to tackle economic vulnerability, climate change, access to sustainable finance and debt distress – key challenges faced by the world’s smallest and most vulnerable nations.

High-level government leaders and multistakeholder partners came together today to strengthen their commitment to addressing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health at a side event held during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa.
