Five years ago, a random gynaecological screening turned veteran Zambian radio and TV presenter Karen Nakawala's life upside down. A pap smear, followed by a biopsy revealed Karen had cervical cancer.

Water doesn't always seem forceful. Generally, we think of babbling brooks and calm seas, but even gentle water wears down rocks and can sweep away whole houses in a storm. Similarly, 21-year-old Maya Kirti Nanan does not seem like a force of nature at first glance, but she is already gaining international attention and changing thousands of lives with her work. 

CHOGM Side Events play a vital role in complementing the main CHOGM programme. They serve as an inclusive space for Commonwealth Heads of Government, senior officials, business leaders, civil society, youth and women leaders, sections across the Commonwealth Secretariat, and others.

It is an opportunity for these stakeholders to showcase their critical work, innovative solutions or contributions to thematic issues and trends that CHOGM 2024 seeks to address. It is also a platform that creates opportunities for collaboration, exchange of ideas and enables participants to explore practical actions to address common challenges.

The fourth Commonwealth Women’s Forum will be held in Apia, Samoa, in October between 21-22 October 2024 on the margins of the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The thirteenth Commonwealth Youth Forum will be held in Apia, Samoa between 21-22 October 2024 under the theme: ‘Navigating our Course and Building Resilience for a Common Future’.

Leaders of Commonwealth countries meet every two years for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis. The most recent CHOGM was held in Rwanda in 2022.
