The Curriculum Framework is a flexible guide designed to support countries in shaping education systems that are relevant, inclusive and future ready.

Rather than prescribing a fixed syllabus, it provides a model for integrating knowledge, skills, values and attitudes, preparing learners not only for employment but also for active and meaningful participation in society. At its core, the framework aligns national curricula with the SDGs, ensuring that education contributes to individual wellbeing, social inclusion and sustainable development.

When the Curriculum Framework for the Sustainable Development Goals was first piloted in Fiji in 2016, we took a bold step to connect the global goals with local classrooms and to equip learners everywhere to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.

Since then, this framework has inspired action across continents – from universities in Canada exploring food security, to schools in the Philippines aligning science education with the SDGs, to vocational training in Africa embedding green skills for the future of work. Its reach and adaptability prove a simple truth: education is a unifying force, capable of transforming societies while reflecting each country’s unique context.

This new edition comes at a critical moment. Climate change, technological disruption and persistent inequality are reshaping our world and testing our resilience. To meet these challenges, learners must be prepared not only with knowledge, but with the creativity, responsibility and compassion to shape solutions.

The framework responds to this need. It champions sustainability, digital literacy, inclusion and critical thinking across the life course of education. It invites policymakers, educators and communities to work together to ensure no learner is left behind, and every learner is empowered to thrive.
