Ocean Ministers and senior officials from across the Commonwealth will convene in Mombasa, Kenya for the Commonwealth Ocean Ministers Roundtable held on the margins of the Our Ocean Conference.

Background

The roundtable will convene under the overarching theme of the Our Ocean Conference: ‘Our Ocean, Our Heritage, Our Future', which celebrates the living connection between people and the ocean.

It will offer a strategic platform for Commonwealth Ocean Ministers to advance discussions on collective progress towards the Apia Commonwealth Ocean Declaration and key ocean priorities under the Commonwealth Secretariat Strategic Plan 2025–2030.

Participants and guests

Commonwealth Ministers with a responsibility for the ocean and ocean-related matters, senior government officials and strategic partners from across the Commonwealth. 

Objectives

  • To review the commitments made under the Apia Commonwealth Ocean Declaration and assess progress towards their implementation
  • To discuss the implementation of the BBNJ Agreement, with a particular focus on its provisions on Marine Protected Areas, and its contribution to advancing the global target of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030.
