Following the important role that the previous Sports Policy of the Gambia (2010–2019) played in the development of the sports system in the country, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS), in consultation with all major stakeholders in the country, has taken the important decision to review the policy to develop a new National Sports Policy for 2024 to 2034.

In order to fulfil this mission and vision, the Gambia National Sports Policy has been designed to achieve seven specific goals by 2034.
1. Sport for All is promoted and supported to increase participation in sport and exercise to improve
physical and mental well-being.
2. High performance and excellence in international sport are achieved.
3. Sports serve as a medium for the inclusion and development of the youth, women and girls as well
as communities.
4. Adequate sports infrastructure be developed with partners at national, regional and school levels.
5. Physical education as a subject and school sports outside of school time be prioritised as the
bedrock of sport in The Gambia.
6. A renewed and strong partnership with the private sector is achieved, and funding and sponsorships
secured, to enable the goals to be reached.
7. A well-defined and progressive policy, institutional and legal framework be adopted to ensure sound
governance and accountability.

of strategic actions to be undertaken

These strategic actions form the basis of a targeted policy implementation plan. In realising the importance of tracking progress in achieving the aims of the policy, indicators for each goal and enabling outcome have been established and included in the Policy.
