Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is a fertile island country in the Caribbean Sea. Its closest neighbours are the islands of Martinique, to the north, and Saint Vincent, to the south-west. It was formed by volcanic activity. Its geographic features include a central ridge of mountains, many rivers and boiling sulphur springs. It is surrounded by sandy beaches.

Elections 

Saint Lucia received Commonwealth Election Professionals (CEP) Initiative training in May 2018. Its election officials learned about party financing, the independence of the elections management body and encouraging women’s involvement in running elections.

Peace and security 

In June 2019, the Secretariat helped Saint Lucia involve women and young people in working with local communities on violent crime and male violence against women and girls.

Climate change

The Secretariat supports Saint Lucia to deliver climate action by building its capacity to access international climate finance through the Climate Finance Access Hub and supporting the development of robust climate policies.

Countering violent extremism 

The Secretariat has helped Saint Lucia to tackle violence and extremist views. It helped the country set up a national plan to counter violent extremism.

Anti-corruption 

The Secretariat gave training to commissioners and other staff working to prevent corruption in Saint Lucia. The focus was on leadership and management.

Trade 

The Secretariat advised Saint Lucia on trade in services, intellectual property rights and competition.  

In April 2019, the Secretariat provided a plan for economic reforms to make it easier for foreign firms to conduct business in Saint Lucia.

Blue Charter

Saint Lucia is a member of the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Alliance – the Blue Charter Action Group on tackling marine plastic pollution.

Connectivity Agenda

Saint Lucia is a member of the Regulatory and Supply Side Connectivity clusters of the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda. The Connectivity Agenda is a platform for countries to exchange best practices and experiences to trade and investment and undertake domestic reform.
