Side event 4: Strengthening Implementation of the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Commonwealth This event will aim to awareness of opportunities and challenges in implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in Commonwealth countries. It will showcase specific measures taken by member countries, examine how the implementation and monitoring mechanisms - set out in article 33 of the Convention - work in practice, and highlight measures governments can take to strengthen accessibility, inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities across all efforts.

The meeting will be convened under the theme: ‘Anchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future’.
Hosted by the Government of the Republic of Fiji, the meeting is one of the largest international gatherings of law ministers and attorneys general focused on legal co-operation.
At the meeting, ministers will examine progress in advancing access to justice and seek consensus on practical steps to remove barriers that prevent people from having their legal needs met.
The agenda will address a broad range of issues, including the role of technology in justice delivery, model contracts for natural resource governance, legal reform tools, and stronger protections for fundamental rights.
Outcomes from the meeting will inform the Commonwealth Secretariat’s ongoing work under the Declaration on Access to Justice and help shape the agenda for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Meetings of Senior Officials of Commonwealth Law Ministries were held virtually on 16 October 2025 and in-person in Fiji on 9 February 2026.
Both meetings were chaired by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Fiji.
