Catastrophic landslides in Rwanda over recent days cause loss of life and devastation to homes.

Commonwealth Secretary-General, The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC, has expressed sympathy and solidarity with the Government and people of Rwanda following the loss of lives and devastation of homes caused by catastrophic landslides in recent days.

In a letter to President Paul Kagame today, Secretary-General Scotland said: “On behalf of the Commonwealth family, I write to convey sympathy to the Government and people of Rwanda, and condolences to all who have lost family and friends as a result of this tragedy, particularly those bereaved by the loss of children.”

The Secretary-General also added: "I commend the tireless work of emergency services and communities who continue to work so hard in the aftermath of this tragedy."
