Ministers to discuss findings of ministerial mission

The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) will hold an extraordinary meeting at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London, UK, on 22 February 2012 to discuss the findings of the CMAG ministerial mission to Maldives, which took place from 17 to 19 February.

The three-person ministerial mission was led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Communications of Trinidad and Tobago, Surujrattan Rambachan. He was accompanied by Dr Dipu Moni, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, and Dennis Richardson AO, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia.

They held detailed discussions with a wide range of stakeholders, including President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik; former President Mohamed Nasheed; the Speaker of the Majlis, Abdulla Shahid; the Chief Justice, Ahmed Faiz Hussain; relevant military and police personnel; political parties; statutory commissions; as well as international partners and civil society.
