The Commonwealth Expert Team (CET) has released its final report on the Parliamentary Elections held in Barbados on 11 February 2026, concluding that the polls were credible, transparent and peaceful, while encouraging targeted reforms to further strengthen the electoral process.

The CET was deployed at the invitation of the Government of Barbados and assessed the elections against the country’s domestic legal framework and its commitments under Commonwealth democratic principles. The CET found that the elections reflected the will of the people and took place in a calm and orderly environment, underpinned by respect for the rule of law and Barbados’ long standing democratic tradition.

The report commends the professionalism and preparedness of the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, which maintained public confidence in the administration of the process. However, it notes continued concerns regarding inaccuracies in the voters’ list and recommends targeted reforms in voter registration and list management processes, including improved mechanisms for continuous verification, clearer public communication on updates to the register, and strengthened administrative systems to enhance accuracy and inclusivity.

The campaign period was described as competitive, peaceful and conducted within a broadly respectful political environment. Political actors were able to engage freely with voters through rallies, community meetings, traditional media and digital platforms. While the media landscape provided a range of viewpoints, the report highlights the increasing influence of social media and the associated risks of misinformation, calling for clearer safeguards around digital campaigning and greater transparency in online political advertising.

The report also highlights strong inclusion, with active participation by women, young people and persons with disabilities, while encouraging further steps to improve accessibility and expand civic education for first time voters.

The CET concluded that Barbados remains a model of democratic stability in the region and commended all stakeholders for their cooperation and commitment throughout the electoral process. It expressed confidence that the recommendations will support the continued strengthening of Barbados’ democratic institutions and processes.
