The Role of National Human Rights Institutions

The Commonwealth Secretariat in partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights will be hosting the side event 'Ending Child, Early and Forced Marriage' in the margins of the 35th session of the Human Rights Council.

The event will highlight the role of National Human Rights Institutions in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5.3 which calls for the elimination of all harmful practices affecting women and girls. In addition, the side event aims to provide an opportunity to exchange experience and good practices on the work of National Human Rights Institutions.

Opening violin performance and a movie screening on the theme of Child Marriage.

Prof. Les Allamby, Chief Commisioner, Northern Ireslan Human Rights Commission, and Chair, Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (CfNHRI).

Prof. Alfonso Barragues, Deputy Director, UNFPA Geneva.

Chair: Mrs. Margareth Karemba, Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva.
