Empowering Transformations: The Natural Resources–Climate Nexus

The Commonwealth is celebrating 55 years of Commonwealth innovation and impact for a sustainable future with a panel discussion on natural resources on 28 June 2024 at Marlborough House, London.

Many countries seek to leverage natural resources for climate-resilient, inclusive, sustainable development. These extractive industries can catalyse transformative change and prosperity but pose unique challenges, notably climate change.   

The Commonwealth Secretariat has provided support for over five decades, including the complex mining and petroleum sectors. 

Lessons from this event will include: 

Held during London Climate Action Week and six months before COP29, this high-level event will be a critical dialogue for Commonwealth countries and partners to:  

  • Build awareness of resource-dependency in the Commonwealth and challenges,  

  • Highlight the impact of over 55 years of technical support including accelerating climate action and advancing a just energy transition,  

  • Explore areas where greater support and cooperation are needed.
