Debt managers from across the Commonwealth will meet in London from 23 to 27 March 2026 for the Commonwealth Public Debt Management Forum, being organised as part of the Commonwealth Year of Resilient, Innovative and Sustainable Debt.
The five-day meeting will focus on strengthening how governments borrow, manage and repay public debt. Discussions will focus on sharing technical expertise, research and tools, as well as engaging development partners on policy cooperation and technical support.
Sessions will also examine how emerging issues - including climate finance, disaster risk and new technologies - can be integrated into debt management practices. Participants will also explore how the Commonwealth Meridian debt management system can support these efforts.
During the event, the Commonwealth Secretariat will also present:
- A new report on Public Debt and Youth Development in Commonwealth countries, examining how debt decisions impact opportunities for young people;
- The winners of the Commonwealth Public Debt Management Awards, recognising excellence and innovation in managing public finances; and
- A new guide on Debt Swaps, offering practical advice on how countries can restructure debt to support development and climate priorities.
The Commonwealth Year of Resilient, Innovative and Sustainable Debt observance was agreed by leaders at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
