The Commonwealth Secretariat through its Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub supports member countries in accessing climate finance to support climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience efforts, thereby contributing towards the implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions.

Under the NDC Partnership’s Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP) initiative, the Commonwealth Secretariat delivered targeted support for the enhancement and implementation of NDCs in four member countries in 2021, namely Belize, Eswatini, Jamaica and Zambia, through the provision of in-country technical expertise.

This Commonwealth NDC Webinar series, in collaboration with the NDC Partnership, seeks to support the accumulation and transfer of critical knowledge across countries and regions based on this CAEP experience and the wider programming of the Secretariat, for the replication and scaling up of innovative and successful climate action projects and initiatives.

Under each webinar below is a selection of useful related documents.

  • Webinar 1: Climate Finance: From Landscape to Strategy Implementation - 17 February 2022, 1:30 – 3:00GMT

Detailed climate finance mapping is key to developing climate finance strategies. A clear assessment of a country’s climate finance landscape provides the comprehensive knowledge base of stakeholders and systems required for financing climate action.

Building on the experiences and lessons learned from the Commonwealth Secretariat’s work in Belize and Zambia, under the Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP), delivered through the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub (CCFAH), this session aims to bring forward the unique perspectives on how such interventions can enhance access to and deployment of climate finance for NDC implementation.

  • Webinar 2: Integrating Gender Equality into NDC Implementation - 8 March 2022, 2:00-3:30pm GMT (International Women’s Day)

Mainstreaming gender equality in all climate policies, strategies and projects is critical to ensuring more effective, inclusive and sustainable climate action. It recognises the different ways in which climate change affects various groups and in particular the disproportionate burden on women.

In line with the theme of International Women’s Day, ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, this webinar will delve deeper into the recommendations of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s recent assessment of gender integration in member countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) or national climate plans. The webinar will also facilitate the sharing of experiences and lessons learned in integrating gender equality for the design and implementation of NDCs.
