CHOGM 2026 side event: Blue Finance and Innovation

Event date: 03 November 2026, 14:00 - 19:30 (AST / UTC-4)

Showcasing how a step-change in blue finance and innovation can contribute to ocean conservation, this event will increase awareness of blue finance and innovation by showcasing innovative technologies and their financing; as well as  bringing investors, governments and innovators together to boost ocean investment.

The Commonwealth is home to a third of the world’s ocean under national jurisdiction, 45 per cent of all coral reefs and 25 Small Island Developing States.

The Apia Commonwealth Ocean Declaration expresses grave concern with the global emergency facing the ocean and sounds a clarion call for its restoration, protection and sustainable use.

The event will consist of three parts:

  • An exhibition of innovative ocean restoration, conservation and sustainable use products and projects from leading companies and the winners of the Royal Commonwealth Society’s Youth Photography competition;
  • A fireside chat by CEOs and other leaders on blue finance, the launch of Commonwealth ocean publications, and presentations on green shipping; and
  • High-level speeches by Heads of Government from the Commonwealth and beyond.

This event will be hosted in partnership with the Commonwealth Centre of Excellence for Oceanography and Blue Economy (COBE), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
