One minute intervention by Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon. Shirley Botchwey at the CHOGM: Commonwealth Leaders and CEO Investment Summit, Monday 2 November 2026 at the The Sticky Wicket, St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda

This investment summit is the first fruit of a reformed CHOGM, one that will drive resilience and prosperity across the Commonwealth.

I thank our host, Prime Minister Browne, CWEIC, SMI, our leaders and our partners here today for making this possible. We know that the old division of labour between governments and business cannot deliver for the people, or for the bottom line of business.

With a market of 2.7 billion people, how many Commonwealth businesses lead globally? With our enormous natural and human resources, how much wealth has been available to shape our national fortunes?

I urge everyone, leaders and CEOs, to join our grand partnership, built on common goals and strategies.

Let us agree on policies to redefine risk, unlock capital, prepare our youth for the changing world of work and raise our climate ambitions – as a common project: the Commonwealth project for shared prosperity.

Leaders and investors: today you are in the same room.  Tell each other what you need. And let’s make this count.

I thank you.
