The Commonwealth Secretariat is seeking to engage a qualified consultant (which may be an individual, consortium or company) to work in partnership with The Commonwealth's TONR department to:
- draft a study of the potential impact of deep-seabed polymetallic nodule mining (DSM) in the Area on the economies of land-based mining countries; and
- programme an Excel based economic model showing the impact of DSM in the Area on the prices of relevant metals (including copper, cobalt, manganese and nickel), and the impact of lower metal prices on the exports, GDP and government revenue of major land-based mining countries.
The preferred consultant should have demonstrable experience and expertise in:
- Forecasting the impact of increased metals supply on metals prices;
- Forecasting the impact of metal prices on metal supply in different countries;
- Forecasting the impact of metals prices and metal supply on land-based mining countries GDP, exports and government revenue;
- Excel based economic modelling;
- Drafting reports on metal prices and the economic impact of land-based mining;
- ideally experience, knowledge and expertise in the economics of deep-seabed mining; and
- Working in partnership with international organisations to produce high quality outputs.
