The English-Speaking Union (ESU) is an international educational charity founded in 1918 to promote better communication and understanding between people of different cultures and countries.
Its mission is to equip young people with the speaking, listening, and cross-cultural skills they need to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Through a range of programmes, including debating, public speaking, Shakespeare performance competitions, and teacher training, the ESU helps develop confidence, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
The organisation also delivers international initiatives such as the International Public Speaking Competition, bringing together young people from across the Commonwealth and beyond to foster dialogue and mutual understanding.
