The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, has expressed sadness and regret that there have been further incidents of election-related violence in Pakistan with loss of life and injury.

The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, has expressed sadness and regret that there have been further incidents of election-related violence in Pakistan with loss of life and injury. A bomb attack in the morning of 25 July in Quetta, provincial capital of Balochistan in south western Pakistan, killed more than thirty people.

The Secretary-General offered condolences and sympathy to all those affected by the attacks, and commended emergency services personnel dealing with the aftermath. She reiterated Commonwealth solidarity with the people and Government of Pakistan, and called for a safe environment within which political candidates are free to campaign and citizens are able to exercise their right to vote without intimidation.
