Samoa and the Cook Islands are working with the Commonwealth to improve their national debt management databases.
The Commonwealth Secretariat is helping the two nations implement software to record, analyse, monitor and report public debt, while setting-up accurate and timely databases covering various debt categories.
This week a team of experts from the Commonwealth’s Debt Management department has been working in Samoa with the two Governments to install Meridian - a state-of-the-art system incorporating improved functionalities to better address emerging debt management needs.
Data is being moved across from old databases to the new system, with staff being trained how to use it. The old and new systems will run parallel to one another for a number of months.
