The Commonwealth Secretary-General the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC has received a Lifetime Achievement Award and Justice Medal from O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in New Delhi, India.
On receiving the award, the Secretary-General said:
“What an honour to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award and Justice Medal from O.P. Jindal Global University in New Delhi in front of some of India’s best and brightest youth during their graduation. I say to the young and aspiring in our Commonwealth family, I am no different to you, if I can do it you can too."
"My passion and belief in the law has grown year on year, and my determination to deliver ‘justice for all’ has grown too. The law is a tool to use in the defence of others and any young person who wants to join the law profession should know that it is a noble profession, yes it is hard and it demands everything of you but it is also very fulfilling and worthy.”
Secretary-General Scotland is currently on an official visit to India from August 2nd-15th 2022, where she is conducting bilateral meetings with Ministers, high-level government officials, the private sector and charities. Her official activities have started in New Delhi, then shall she shall travel to Pune, Haridwar and Coimbatore.
Speaking about her plans whilst in India, Secretary-General Scotland said:
“I will be meeting people throughout this trip who have the capacity to advance India’s interests and advance the interests of the Commonwealth. Yesterday I had a valuable conversation with Secretary (West) Shri Sanjay from the Ministry of External Affairs on the importance of India in the Commonwealth."
"I expressed our gratitude for India's generosity and support to vulnerable Commonwealth countries during the pandemic, including sharing much-need Covid-19 vaccines. I also expressed my enthusiasm for future collaboration and engagement on issues such as youth empowerment, ending violence against women, promoting peace and more.”
