Secretary-General expresses revulsion in wake of attack in Pakistan

27 March 2016

Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma today expressed shock and revulsion at the attack at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal park in Lahore, Pakistan, which resulted in the violent death of many people and inflicted serious injury on many others.

Speaking from London he conveyed sympathy to all affected, and condolences to the bereaved. He said "The Commonwealth stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Pakistan - who are our fellow Commonwealth citizens. An outrage such as that carried out today in Lahore makes it more urgent than ever for us to work together as a Commonwealth, offering mutual support based on our shared values and principles to counter violent extremism, to build safer and more inclusive societies in a spirit of respect and understanding."
