The Commonwealth Secretariat has appointed a new senior director for the Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

The Commonwealth Secretariat has appointed a new senior director for the Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

Public policy expert and thought leader on sustainable development, Ruth Kattumuri, will begin her new post on 15 June.

As founder and co-director of the India Observatory at the London School of Economics (LSE), Dr Kattumuri brings a wealth of experience in leading innovative initiatives as well as influencing public policy and business leadership in India, the UK and globally.

She is also engaged in promoting South-South co-operation.

Her research and teaching achievements have set new trends in the area of technology, innovation and sustainable development.

Previously, as professor of Computer Science in India, Dr Kattumuri pioneered efforts to advance information technology in the country during the early years of its development.

She received the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman Award for her work on sustainable and inclusive development, as well as training and mentoring scores of young people.

Dr Kattumuri is a Cambridge Commonwealth Fellow and a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD degree from the London School of Economics.
