Applications are now open to attend a workshop in Cameroon on the participation of women in preventing and countering violent extremism.

The Commonwealth Secretariat will host the four-day event entitled ‘Cameroon: Participation of Women in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism’ in Douala 11-14 June 2019.

The conference aims to build the knowledge and networks of Cameroonian women working in Civil Society Organisations, particularly those that play a role in building peace and preventing violent extremism and terrorism.

It includes an interactive workshops to understand how gender affects violent extremism. Participants will work together to identify the vulnerabilities and the resiliencies of men and women, opportunities to prevent violent extremism in Cameroon, and strategies to support women who have been involved with violent extremism to reintegrate into their communities.  This workshop will also consider promising examples from Cameroon and will explore practices from other countries.

The event will be delivered by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Civil Society Action Network for Women’s Rights, Peace and Security (ICAN). Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Cameroon will also be taking part.

We invite applications from women from all regions of Cameroon that play a role in preventing violent extremism and peacebuilding, especially in areas of Cameroon that are affected by conflict. Applications from males working to support women’s peace and security in Cameroon will also be considered.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate an interest and experience in peacebuilding.  All expenses will be paid including travel and accommodation.
