Join Commonwealth during London Global Cancer Week

Event date: 15 November 2020, 0:00 - 20 November 2020, 0:00

From 15 to 20 November, the Secretariat is joining forces with the Commonwealth Foundation and London Global Cancer Week to focus on strategies to prevent and treat the rising cases of this deadly disease.

Every 10 seconds someone in the Commonwealth receives the devastating news that they have cancer. Every 18 seconds someone in the Commonwealth dies of cancer. However, 30 to 50 per cent of all cancer cases are preventable.

From 15 to 20 November, the Secretariat is joining forces with the Commonwealth Foundation and London Global Cancer Week to focus on strategies to prevent and treat the rising cases of this deadly disease.

Under the theme ‘Commonwealth Collective Action on Cancer Prevention’, the organisations will host a series of sessions to put a spotlight on challenges posed by most common and preventable cancers such as cervical cancer.

The sessions will tackle the impact of emerging issues, including the coronavirus pandemic, and give countries a platform to share effective prevention and treatment measures.

The programme will provide a dedicated space for advocacy on collective and coordinated Commonwealth responses to prevent people from developing cancer.

The virtual sessions are a prime opportunity for health ministers, health workers, survivors, researches and advocates to review the status of cancer cases in the Commonwealth and explore tailored prevention strategies.
