Background

Organised by law firm Stephenson Harwood, the academy is a three-week advanced training programme. It aims to equip young practitioners from Africa with the skills needed to succeed in the international arbitration sector.

Thirty participants from 13 African countries, including 10 Commonwealth members, will learn about the latest trends in commercial and investment treaty arbitration while exploring ways to resolve such disputes in their daily work.

During the opening session, participants will hear from attorney generals and experts about the significance and practice of international arbitration in resolving cross-border disputes.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the programme, which has trained dozens of arbitrators through a mix of lectures, mock sessions, and interviews.

Opening day speakers include

  • Hon Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, Attorney General, Malawi.
