Ensuring climate resilience in Africa

The online event will bring together government officials, technical experts, researchers, international financial institutions, private sector and civil society stakeholders to discuss best practices in SLM to ensure climate resilience in Africa.

Discussions will address the challenges hindering sustainable land management in the region, highlight nature-based solutions for climate adaptation and explore climate finance mechanisms to tackle these issues.

Commonwealth Call to Action on Living Lands

It will be the second of a series of regional engagements organised by the Secretariat under the Commonwealth Call to Action on Living Lands (CALL) programme in support of the proposed Commonwealth Living Lands Charter. (See also: “Enhancing a Coordinated Approach on Financing for Climate Action on Land in the Caribbean” on 27 April 2021)

The Living Lands Charter will serve as an agreement among the 54 member countries to work towards climate resilient and sustainable land management by integrating the targets of the three Rio Conventions — the post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (UNCBD), the Land Degradation Neutrality targets (UNCCD), and the Paris Agreement (UNFCCC) — thus catalysing progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 15 – Life on Lands.
