Commonwealth response to COVID-19

The meeting will be held virtually under the theme ‘Commonwealth response to COVID-19: Ensuring equitable access to vaccines and building resilience for health systems and emergencies’.

Health ministers will have the opportunity to liaise with experts and practitioners, and to share their experiences of health challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting aims to facilitate collaboration on key issues such as vaccine development, access to medicines and technology, and strategies to bolster health systems.

In addition, there will be statements and reports from countries and regions.

Key information

Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland and the World Health Organization’s Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will deliver the keynote remarks.

The meeting will be chaired by India’s Minister of Health, Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Side event: Commonwealth Civil Society Policy Forum 2021

In the run-up to the meeting, the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association and the Commonwealth Health Professions and Partners Alliance will host a policy forum for civil society representatives on 18 May.
