Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland will be leading a delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference, COP25 to be held in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 13 December.

Key to this crucial global event will be raising ambitions for climate action, while ensuring concrete responses.

COP 25 will also have enhanced focus on oceans, land degradation and desertification, in light of special reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Commonwealth engagement at COP25 is aimed at supporting climate policy objectives of member countries, as well as promoting and mobilising support for the Commonwealth’s work on climate change. It is also an opportunity to meet with international partners and collaborators to build and strengthen partnerships.

Engagements will include a statement by the Secretary-General at the High Level Segment, high level and technical bilateral meetings, side events on climate finance and ocean action, as well as participation of Commonwealth experts in various other events and fora at the conference.
