Discuss and engage with your peers around the world on topics relating to the Commonwealth values.
This debate aims to find out what gives school children between the ages of seven to fourteen a sense of belonging, and what makes them feel appreciated by the world and people around them.
Some questions to consider:
- What do you like the most about where you live?
- Do you know other people who live in your local community?
- Imagine if you had to move to another village, town or city – what could you do to make yourself feel more at home?
- Now, imagine what it would be like if you had to leave your country and move somewhere you didn’t speak the language. What would it be like? What could you do to make yourself feel more at home? Do you think it would take some time before you felt like you belonged there?
- Do you feel part of a community when you are at school? Are you proud to attend your school?
- What would it be like if you had to change schools? How might it feel? How could you go about making new friends (and keeping in touch with old ones)?

Commonwealth Class
Commonwealth Class is a joint project between the Commonwealth Secretariat and the British Council. It has been running since 2013 and has already reached over 120,000 schools.
The project aims to educate children aged seven to fourteen about the values and principles of the Commonwealth and to increase understanding about the lives of young people in other countries. It encourages students to collaborate and learn together, and consider how they can be more active and responsible global citizens.
