When: Tuesday, 22 June 2021, 13:00 to 14:30 BST

During this webinar, the Commonwealth Secretariat will be launching the 'Legislative drafting and law reform exchange programme for OECS Member States', which aims to address a shortage of legislative drafting and law reform capacity in the Commonwealth Caribbean region, particularly in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean Member States (OECS). The mentoring programme utilises a holistic and sustainable approach to facilitate the exchange of legislative drafting and law reform skills.

The webinar will introduce the mentoring programme which is designed to:

  • ensure more resilient, effective and efficient legal frameworks for the delivery of the legal services necessary to promote and maintain the rule of law in accordance with the Commonwealth Charter.
  • strengthen participating member countries' ability to develop fit for purpose legislation.
  • provide an opportunity for the member countries involved to foster peer to peer cooperation within the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Secretariat is partnering with the government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Commission for this programme. It is envisaged that it will enhance technical knowledge and increase the productivity of all officials who receive the mentoring, as well strengthen legal frameworks in participating countries.
