14 November 2015

Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Secretary-General, today expressed deep sympathy for the families and loved ones of those killed and affected by the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris last night.

"My heart goes out to all those who have been touched by this unspeakable tragedy," he stated.  "The Commonwealth stands in solidarity with all democracies in the face of violent extremism. Everyone who believes in tolerance, understanding and the rule of law must stand united against those who would destroy these treasured values."

The Secretary-General concluded by stating that countering violent extremism is a priority for the Commonwealth.
