Rule of Law webinar 5: Legislative approaches and law enforcement in a COVID-19 Commonwealth

This webinar will focus on the different legislative approaches adopted by Commonwealth member countries to address the COVID-19 pandemic; the effect which the enforcement measures, including emergency legislation, have had on constitutional rights; and the effect of the pandemic on the separation of powers.

The panel will also discuss good practice in enforcing public health legislation while respecting the rule of law.

Actions after COVID-19

The discussion will culminate in exploring how Commonwealth member countries should respond to COVID-19 once the pandemic is ‘over’, including what will happen to emergency legislation, and whether loopholes in the legislation could risk abuses of power arising in the future.
