Applications are now open for citizens of Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean to join the Commonwealth Caribbean Cyber Experts Fellowship.
The fellowship is a unique platform for cybersecurity experts from Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean to exchange knowledge, foster partnerships and influence the policy work of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Selected fellows will serve for two years. They get exclusive access to academic research opportunities, networking events and annual conferences, with a focus on enhancing cybersecurity policies, processes and institutions across Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean.
Eligibility
Any citizen of a Commonwealth country in the Caribbean between the ages of 25 and 60 can apply to join the fellowship. Applicants must also have at least five years of experience working on cybersecurity in the fields of law, policymaking, cybersecurity, telecommunications, academia or related sectors.
Announcing the inaugural fellowship, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, encouraged all eligible candidates to apply.
She added:
“To take full advantage of rapid technological advancements, cybersecurity must be a top priority. Yet, we recognise that not every country has the resources or expertise to build resilient cyber defences at the speed and scale required. This disparity is a risk we cannot ignore.
“The Commonwealth has shown time and again that when we work together in a spirit of goodwill and mutual support, we are more than equal to the challenge.
“Building on this time-tested strength, our new Fellowship Programme brings together experts from across the Caribbean – many of whom might not usually collaborate – to co-create the solutions we need to help safeguard the region and its people from cyber threats.”
Application process
To apply, applicants must submit the following documents to [email protected] by 23:59 BST on 23 September 2024:
- their resume;
- a cover letter; and
- details of two referees.
This is the inaugural cycle of the Commonwealth Caribbean Experts Fellowship programme, supported by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
It is designed to support the delivery of the Commonwealth Cyber Declaration, a framework agreed by Commonwealth countries in 2018 to promote a safe and prosperous cyberspace for 2.7 billion Commonwealth citizens.
