Bangladesh: sentencing by the International Crimes Tribunal

On International Human Rights Day, the Secretary-General today urges careful and full consideration of all national constitutional provisions and due legal process in relation to the conviction and sentencing to death of any Commonwealth citizen.

The Secretary-General wishes to emphasise that all Commonwealth member governments have subscribed to the Commonwealth Charter, which includes a shared commitment to the highest standards of the rule of law and human rights, of which a fair trial and due process are key.
