This webinar will provide a practical introduction to investor-state dispute settlement with a focus on the Pacific region. The webinar will cover the basics of investor-state arbitration (including the international treaty framework underpinning it) and the arbitration rules and procedures that apply in investor-state cases.
The webinar will also cover the jurisdictional, merits and damages issues that arise in investor-state arbitration, together with the practical issues commonly faced by sovereign states that are required to defend investor-state cases.
Monty Taylor, will speak at all three webinars. He is a Partner in the International Arbitration Group of Arnold & Porter and an Adjunct Professor of Public International Law at Pepperdine University. He has extensive experience representing clients in investorstate arbitrations, and he is currently representing Peru, the Philippines, Thailand, and Turkey in pending investment disputes.
Prior to joining Arnold & Porter, Monty served as Legal Counsel to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), which is the world’s leading institution devoted to international investment dispute settlement. Monty is recognised in leading directories as “a brilliant lawyer” (Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration Future Leaders, 2020) who is “fiercely clever” (The Legal 500 UK, 2020) and “among the very top of his generation” (Chambers & Partners UK, 2020).
