Salary: £59,756 pa + benefits 

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Communications Officer to work within our Communications Division.

The post-holder will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s strategic communications strategy, involving proactive media outreach and a range of public affairs activities.

To be considered, you must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as communications, journalism, media studies, international affairs or any other appropriate field. A master’s degree or similar post-graduate qualification in any relevant field would be desirable. We are looking for someone with at least 7 years of experience as a reporter or correspondent in a media organisation, and/or in an external communications role. Experience gained in covering political, parliamentary, social or economic issues or event management will be an advantage.

The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate: 

  • ability to coordinate and supervise press conferences, media briefings and interviews;
  • effective writing and editing skills for press releases, briefing papers and occasionally, speeches;
  • ability to collate and re-write technical and official documents in a media-friendly and informative manner;
  • ability to think, plan and deliver in a strategic manner and in-line with the organisation’s goals
  • an eye for identifying multimedia opportunities and contributing to social media outputs to highlight the work of the Commonwealth Secretariat and;
  • excellent oral and written communication along with a high degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion.
