Information and communication technology (ICT) plays a major role in driving social and economic progress in developing countries. The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is an intergovernmental treaty organisation which has been instrumental in promoting this knowledge and encouraging the use of such technologies, through its partnership with governments, regulators, business, development agencies and other organisations both in the Commonwealth and beyond.
The CTO works closely with international and regional institutions, including the International Telecommunications Union, and in recent years, it has developed an enviable reputation for policy analysis and programme implementation in the use of ICT for development.
The CTO is now looking for a forward-thinking, commercially-focused secretary-general to advance the organisation. The secretary-general will act as an ambassador for the organisation meeting with industry leaders; government, private sector and development agencies.
The CTO is seeking an individual with significant experience managing a line of business or as a CEO in a Telecommunications/ICT organisation or related industry sector. The successful candidate will have worked in environments where there is exposure to securing funding from external sources, negotiating and influencing others, understanding international development issues, global communication issues, policy, and technology, as well as developing collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external bodies.
Non-UK residents will also have diplomatic status in the UK where the CTO Secretariat is located. Joining on a four-year contract, the secretary-general will become a catalyst for organisational development by applying your experience of directing change and developing new and existing funding streams from both the communications and international development sectors.
Applicants must be citizens of a Commonwealth country that is a full member country of the CTO.
