We have an excellent opportunity for a Programme Officer – Gender and Development to join our Economic Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.
The Gender Section is one of the five sections/units of the Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate (EYSD) of the Commonwealth Secretariat. The Section’s work on key aspects of sustainable development towards the achievement of the Commonwealth’s priorities on gender equality; the Secretariat’s Strategic and Delivery Plans; and the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The work to advance gender equality and the achievement of the SDGs focuses predominantly on gender mainstreaming and the four areas of the Commonwealth’s priorities on Gender Equality namely: Women in Leadership; Women’s Economic Empowerment; Ending Violence Against Women; and Gender and Climate Change.
The Programme Officer shall assist the Head of Gender and designated Adviser/Project Lead Expert in facilitating the implementation of the project on the economic costs of VAWG, and Secretariat’s work gender mainstreaming, and Commonwealth meetings. Duties include supporting research analysis, capacity building, advocacy, knowledge generation, partnership building and other strategies towards implementation of planned activities under the project on the economic costs of VAWG and other technical assistance projects of the Section.
To be considered, you must have a Masters’ degree in economics, development studies, gender/women studies, the humanities, social sciences or related field or a Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with eight years of experience. At least five years proven track record in the area of sustainable development, gender, ending violence against women, and economic empowerment or related work.
