Beware of scams using the Commonwealth Secretariat's name

There are fraudulent message going round which:

  • claim to be from or in association with the Commonwealth Secretariat or its officials
  • ask for money or personal details.

Please be careful if you get an unexpected message which seems to be from the Commonwealth Secretariat. You could lose money or have your identity stolen.

The Commonwealth Secretariat:

  • does not charge you a fee at any stage of its recruitment process (application, interview, processing, training or any other time)
  • will not ask you for any private information like bank account details
  • does not offer prizes, awards, funds, certificates or scholarships, or run lotteries, via email, post or fax.

The Secretariat is in no way connected with these scams. The people behind them do not work for the Commonwealth Secretariat and they are not acting on our behalf.

If you have any doubts about an email, letter or telephone call claiming to be from or on behalf of the Commonwealth Secretariat or its officials, please send us an email before replying.

If you have been the victim of a scam, report it to your local police.
