Elderly Fitness

The Elderly Fitness program was created by Active Mauritius to raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity among elderly populations. With COVID-19 forcing a pause on face to face programs, these online resources, created in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat, are even more important to help the elderly stay active. There are also long-term benefits for those who are not able to travel to face to face programs.

Many exercise resources are aimed at younger populations and so we hope these online resources can be used and enjoyed in other countries too. By delivering the face to face and online program, we are doing our part to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Programme

  • Allows older people to stay active in the safety and comfort of their homes.
  • Is based on the principle that physical activity throughout the lifetime is essential to maintaining physical and mental health.
  • Has already been tested and has proven extremely popular since it began in 2018 in Mauritius and Rodrigues.
