The Commonwealth Secretariat convenes a four-yearly Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting, including a Youth Leaders Forum, to assist member countries with the development of policy and the sharing of good practices.
The outcomes of these discussions feed into the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
The 8th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (8CYMM) was hosted by the Government of Papua New Guinea, in Port Moresby, in 2013.
Major outcomes of the meeting included the launch of the Commonwealth Youth Council and a proposal to reserve special seats in parliaments and other governance structures for young people.
Ministers also committed to push for the inclusion of young people in development planning and to ensure their contributions and needs are prioritised at the highest levels of government.
The 9th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (9CYMM) will be held in 2017 in Uganda.
Throughout 2015, Regional Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meetings took place in Africa, Asia, Caribbean and the Pacific. Find out more:
