Kamalesh Sharma today conveyed his sympathy to the government and people of Solomon Islands following the loss of life and destruction of property caused by flash floods that struck the Pacific island nation on 3 April 2014

Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma today conveyed his sympathy to the government and people of Solomon Islands following the loss of life and destruction of property caused by flash floods that struck the Pacific island nation on 3 April 2014. Speaking on behalf of the Commonwealth he offered condolences to those who have been bereaved, and pledged solidarity with all those displaced or otherwise affected by the catastrophe.

Expressing confidence that Commonwealth member states would act swiftly to mobilise support so that injured people can receive treatment, and to alleviate the hardship of families that have been made homeless, he said: “On behalf of the wider Commonwealth family, please accept our deepest condolences, and be assured that our thoughts are with the people of Solomon Islands in this time of tragic loss and national crisis."
